4 Basic Steps for Getting a Medical Marijuana ID card in Pennsylvania

Marijuana has been approved in the state of Pennsylvania to aid in the treatment of several chronic diseases and conditions, many of which can be debilitating and painful. At MediCalm, we support PA residents on their journey to optimal wellness through a holistically guided approach. Our compassionate team of healthcare providers will help you understand how to apply for a medical marijuana card and support you through every step.

In order to utilize marijuana medicinally in PA, you must first apply for a medical cannabis card from the state. At MediCalm, we know the medical marijuana qualifications in PA inside and out and can assist you with MMJ re-certification or how to get a medical cannabis card initially.

1.  Register for the program through the Medical Marijuana Registry. Go to this link to create your medical Marijuana profile. This profile includes basic information such as your legal name, current address, and contact information. To register for the medical marijuana program, you must also have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or an ID card issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

2.  Have a physician certify that you suffer from one of the medical conditions that qualify for medical marijuana. Please visit MediCalm-PA for your medical condition certification. For an initial evaluation, be sure to bring your state ID or state driver's license, medical records, if not already sent, stating any qualifying condition as well as the given Patient ID number. This number is given by the state department of health's medical marijuana registry program.

3.  Pay for a medical marijuana ID card. Once you have been certified by an approved physician, the next step is to return to the Medical Marijuana Registry and pay for your medical marijuana ID card. The cost of a medical marijuana ID card is $50. Patients who participate in assistance programs including Medicaid, PACE/PACENET, CHIP, SNAP, and WIC may be eligible for fee reductions.

4.  Get medical marijuana from an approved dispensary in Pennsylvania. After receiving your ID card, you may purchase medical marijuana from a dispensary. View a list of medical marijuana dispensaries in Pennsylvania.

Do You Qualify For A Medical Cannabis Card?

Most states, like PA, take into consideration whether your ailment or chronic symptoms impair your ability to lead your life. In other words, if your quality of life has been impacted seriously due to pain, a doctor will most likely recommend medical marijuana and you should easily receive your medical cannabis card. This typically includes any symptoms that keep you from carrying out regular activities without putting your health and safety at risk.

When you’re considering whether or not you match the MMJ recertification qualifications, speak with us at MediCalm.
